Boasts

"...but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses. Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say. To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." - 2 Corinthians 12:5thru10

May we stop our feverish clamoring to amend our weaknesses and to resolve every issue of our heart. May we rejoice in the weaknesses that we have, and even boast in them. They are a good reminder that we are not God:

- I don't have it together in my heart. It's messy in there.
- If His Love is like a power plant, mine is like a double-A battery.
- I don't feel at ease with God's people.
- I cry too easily.
- I am forgetful of the things God has done for me.
- I don't have all the answers.
- I am a little bit crazy inside my head.
- I am often at a failure for words.
- on my own, I do things badly and wrongly.
- I am often afraid.

My soul will boast in the LORD;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Glorify the LORD with me;
let us exalt his name together.
I sought the LORD, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
- Psalm 34:2thru5

I love this post - boasting in our weaknesses is so contrary to the notions that have been ingrained in our minds by our culture. I especially like the double A battery metaphor.

P.S. I think we're all a little crazy in our heads.
