"That day she had seemed a typical tourist-- shrill, crude, and gaunt with travel. But Italy worked some marvel in her. It gave her light, and-- which he held more precious-- it gave her shadow. Soon he detected her in a wonderful reticence. She was like a woman of Leonardo da Vinci's, whom we love not so much for herself as for the things that she will not tell us." - E. M. Forster, from A Room with a View
I couldn't have been more surprised to find a few weeks ago that I was beginning to like myself--one of the most surprising parts about it is that I don't really feel like talking about myself anymore. Perhaps Italy does 'work marvels'...

I knew this would happen. Well, actually, I didn't KNOW, but I had a feeling. Back in June I remember sitting in my dorm room staring out my eighth floor window at Columbia and praying that this would happen - that you would be able to see yourself the way that your closest friends do (no need for repetition). When I saw some of your f'book pics - especially the one in the dress that you put as your profile pic, I knew it had happened - a subtle yet remarkable change. I could see it in your smile. Oddly enough, I had a conversation about this with my grandmother on sunday night.
I'm looking forward to reuniting with you. I know we didn't get any special pants, but we should still have some kind of celebration on thursday night.
Apologies for the long comment.
